San Diego, CA – Karl Strauss and Pure Project release two collaboration beers this Thursday, October 31. The two independent, San Diego-based breweries teamed up to revive previous collaboration brews from years past in the spirit of San Diego Beer Week. The KARL and Pure teams present Murky Poetry Hazy IPA & Liquid Allusion Murky IPA. 

Karl Strauss Brewing Company and Pure Project Brewing are no strangers to brewing together–Murky Poetry and Liquid Allusion were first released in early 2020. These two Hazy IPAs became fan favorites among San Diegans, and the breweries teamed up to bring them back for a limited time. KARL and Pure are longtime members of the San Diego Brewers Guild and local staples in the nation’s Capital of Craft.  

KARL’s collaboration release, Murky Poetry, has tropical notes of guava and sweet orange that intertwine with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. KARL’s version of the collaboration beer was brewed with Amarillo, Citra, Nectaron, and 586 hops and has an ABV of 6.3%. Murky Poetry is available on draft and in 16-oz 4-pack cans in all nine Karl Strauss brewpubs, as well as in bars, restaurants, and retailers across California, Arizona, and Nevada. Liquid Allusion Murky IPA (6.5% ABV) features Nelson, Enigma, and Mosaic Cryo hops in a brew bursting with juicy pineapple, mango, and an orange creamsicle finish. 

The teams’ collaborative efforts go beyond brewing, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared passion for the local San Diego beer scene. Find Murky Poetry and Liquid Allusion on draft and in 16-oz 4-packs starting October 31.  

Murky Poetry marks the second of KARL’s two San Diego-based collaborations for 2024, preceded by The Godfather Italian Pilsner, brewed with Societe Brewing Company earlier this year.

The 4.2% ABV brew will be available in six packs of 12oz cans in addition to draft at all nine KARL locations throughout Southern California. Standing beside KARL’s list of iconic year-round brews, Follow the Sun distinguishes itself as a crisp, light lager that represents the easy-going lifestyle that SoCal offers. The beer is a light-bodied American lager with notes of crisp malt and a subtle hop bitterness that serves as a testament to KARL’s 35 years of high quality brewing. SAN DIEGO, CA – Karl Strauss, San Diego’s longest continuously operating post-Prohibition brewing company, today released its seasonal Oktoberfest beer for the 35th year in a row. Brewmaster Paul Segura made the announcement.

The German-style Märzen lager, which has a 5.0% ABV and a golden amber color, is available on draft at Karl Strauss’s four San Diego brewpubs in 4S Ranch, Carlsbad, Downtown San Diego, and Sorrento Mesa, as well as at several bars and restaurants throughout the County.

Six packs of 12-oz Oktoberfest bottles are also available at the brewpubs and at retail locations such as 7-Eleven, Costco, CVS, Ralphs, Sprouts, and Vons. For a store finder, visit www.karlstrauss.com/find-karl/.

The official 2023 Oktoberfest celebration in Germany takes place from September 16 – October 3. This year marks the 188th festival. Karl Strauss’s Oktoberfest beer uses a blend of Vienna and Munich malts, along with Perle hops imported from the Hallertau region of Germany. It has toasted malt flavors, nutty undertones, and a crisp, clean finish.

In addition to traditional pints, Karl Strauss brewpubs will offer an Oktoberfest stein-and-fill promotion for $15. Refills of Oktoberfest or any Karl Strauss core beer in the newly-designed take-home stein are just $6. The beer will be available through October 31.

Karl Strauss released its first version of an Oktoberfest beer “Blonde Bavarian Oktoberfest Beer” in 1989, the same year the brewery was founded. Blonde Bavarian was part of Karl Strauss’s first Oktoberfest celebration at the brewery’s original location on Columbia Street in Downtown San Diego.

On July 30, it was announced that Karl Strauss was voted as one of San Diego’s Best Craft Breweries in The San Diego Union-Tribune’s 2023 Readers Poll. Only 10 made the list. A Karl Strauss beer garden in San Marcos is expected to open in September. Karl Strauss also has brewpub locations in Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Downtown Los Angeles, and Temecula.

After nearly six months of research and development, the highly anticipated TOWER X WEST COAST IPA launches on Thursday March 2nd on draft, and in 16oz 6packs at all Karl Strauss brewpubs and select retail accounts across California and Arizona.
