FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

karlfestKarlfest took place on Saturday October 4, and featured over 20 beers on tap—highlighting many specialty and seasonal releases by Karl Strauss. The event kicked off with our Brew Master, Paul Segura, tapping a seasonal Oktoberfest cask. Samples of the cask were enjoyed with a vintage sheep’s milk Gouda to highlight the toasted and caramel flavors of the Oktoberfest. Guests were also able to sample the much anticipated Double IPA—coming in at 8.2% ABV and loaded with citrus and tangerine flavor from the large amounts of New Zealand Nelson hops used.

Over 450 people attended the event in support of two local causes—the Surfrider Foundation and the Karl Strauss Brewers Education Fund. Karl Strauss is a long-time supporter of the Surfrider Foundation and their work to protect our oceans, waves and beaches for all people. All proceeds from Karlfest directly supported the Surfrider Foundation Newport Beach and South Orange County Chapters. Money was also raised for the Karl Strauss Brewers Education Fund—established in honor of the late Master Brewer Karl – who loved beer and teaching others about brewing. The fund will help finance education and training for aspiring brewers in southern California.

Karlfest was a chance to highlight Orange County’s local music and craft beer scene. Four guest breweries from Orange County—The Bruery, Tustin Brewing Company, Pizza Port San Clemente, and Backstreet Brewery—were present at the event creating an authentic craft beer experience. Local talent The Union Line, Satisfaction, and Aushua performed at the event and were added to the music playlist in all 6 Karl Strauss Brewery Restaurants. Karl Strauss has become known for supporting emerging and independent artists at their events and has been working with a new music provider to provide those local bands with additional awareness through their restaurants.

karlfestIn a city known for its Imperial IPA’s, Karl Strauss Brewing Company is boldly releasing one of the first commercially brewed Imperial Amber Lagers.  We took Karl’s favorite beer and reinvented it with true San Diego style. The Imperial Amber Lager is reminiscent of the original version with large amounts of toasted caramel malt flavors, but also has a life of its own – coming in at 7.5% abv – this version is balanced with a unique blend of Newport and New Zealand Motueka hops for a bright, citrussy finish.

Brewed in honor of the late Karl Strauss, a portion of the proceeds from each glass sold will benefit the Karl Strauss Brewers Education Fund.  The fund was established in Karl’s name to recognize his passion for beer and love of teaching others about brewing.  We wanted to pass that on to others by helping to fund the education and training of aspiring brewers in Southern California. The Imperial Amber Lager is available in all six Karl Strauss Brewery Restaurants throughout the month of October.
